Packs & Tracks
'PACKS & TRACKS'
Was held in the grounds of Dalemain Mansion and Historic Gardens near Ullswater on Sunday 15th of May 2011.
Packs and Tracks was a fascinating, entertaining day out which celebrates the role of people and horses in shaping Cumbria's landscape through the ages up to the present day. It's a recognition of the value of the historic packhorse routes which crisscross Cumbria and have been used and enjoyed for centuries, for transport and for pleasure, by local people and visitors alike.
The day was all about the Cumbrian countryside and provided a great opportunity to speak to all sorts of enthusiastic bridleway users, wildlife custodians and animal lovers. There was a wide variety of interesting displays that appealed to the whole family and many different groups were represented in a packed programme of attractions.
Amongst the stalls and arena events are dog agility, trail bikes, conservation and wildlife groups, mountain rescue, woodwork, arts and crafts, music, Fell pony rides, ferrets, herbs and plants, also face painting and other activities for children. Live demonstrations of traditional skills range from 'bodging' to 'snigging' and include art, pottery and sculpture. There are displays by traditional working horses, sidesaddle riders, native ponies, American Saddlebred horses, 'Trec' (as featured recently on BBC Countryfile), Riding for the Disabled, pack ponies, ex-race horses and more!

'Packs & Tracks' is a lively and enjoyable day out for all the family and with such a variety of displays there is something for everyone to enjoy. Refreshments are available on the field and at the main house and there is plenty of space to talk to individual exhibitors whilst relaxing in this peaceful setting.
This is what 12 year old Hannah said about it last year - "It was a brilliant day out with loads of exciting things going on."
